Our Philosophy

Security Is Bigger Than Any Single Tool

The name DotStar comes from a concept in regular expressions where ".*" (dot star) represents everything.

For us, that idea became something bigger.

Cybersecurity is rarely defined by a single tool, alert, or control. Real security requires visibility across the entire environment: users, devices, identities, data, applications, and the systems that connect them. The more complete the picture, the better organizations can understand risk, prioritize improvements, and protect what matters most.

That philosophy inspired both our name and our mission.

Our Founder Story

Built From Experience

DotStar was founded by cybersecurity professionals who spent years working alongside managed service providers and their clients.

Through hundreds of customer conversations, security projects, and incident investigations, they saw the same challenges repeat themselves:

Security tools are deployed without a strategy
Limited visibility into security outcomes
Reporting that created activity instead of clarity
Organizations struggling to understand their real security posture

Rather than accepting those limitations, they set out to build a company focused on delivering practical security outcomes through automation, reporting, and operational excellence.

The vision for DotStar was shaped by two longtime MSP and cybersecurity professionals, Hodge Kaufmann and Rob Frickel, whose combined experience helped define the company's direction and values. Although Rob has passed, his influence remains embedded in the way DotStar approaches partnership, problem-solving, and service delivery today.
